TELEVISAUNIVISION PRESENTS SLATE OF ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS TO MARKET AT MIPCOM 2022

CANNES, FRANCE – OCTOBER 17, 2022– TelevisaUnivision, the world’s leading Spanish-language content and media company, unveils its content slate for this year’s edition of MIPCOM. Showcasing the strong momentum of Spanish-language content worldwide, the catalogue features 11 new original titles and hundreds of hours of productions, including premium series, novelas and realities, all of which positions the company as the largest producer of Spanish-language content in the world.

The 2022 slate features new ViX+ Originals including TRAVESURAS DE LA NIÑA MALA,MARÍA FÉLIX: LA DOÑA,MAREA ALTA andLA MUJER DEL DIABLO, and TelevisaUnivision programs such as LOS RICOS TAMBIÉN LLORAN,LA MADRASTRA,VENCER LA AUSENCIA,CORONA DE LAGRIMAS 2,LA HERENCIA,MI SECRETO andEL RETADOR.

TRAVESURAS DE LA NIÑA MALA (Bad Girl) – Adapted from the novel written by Nobel Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa, this epic love story starts in the 1960s and plays across Lima, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, London and other incredible destinations.  It tells the epic love story between a nonconformist and adventurous young woman and Ricardo, a man trapped in a predictable routine whom she calls a “good boy.” Thanks to the “bad girl,” he slowly learns to get out of his comfort zone. These two characters’ lives will intertwine over forty years through reunions across Lima, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, London, and more. The “bad girl” invites us to challenge our life on autopilot, transform ourselves, take more risks to feel alive and seek happiness through excitement. A premise that questions what life is without those exciting moments from the perspective of a character that lives life feeling immortal.

MARÍA FÉLIX: LA DOÑA – Twenty years after her death, this is the first series to portray the life of this legendary actress. Based on journalistic research and testimonies by the people closest to María Félix during her lifetime, including Luis Martínez de Anda, her right-hand man, and universal heir, the series narrates the life of this iconic actress from her early days to her rise to fame and more. Sandra Echeverría, Ximena Romo, and Abril Vergara portray Maria Félix at different stages of her life. The bioseries is produced by Carmen Armendáriz, directed by Mafer Suárez and written by Larissa Andrade, Alejandro Gerber, Tania Tinajero and Gabriela Rodríguez.

MAREA ALTA (High Tide) – Marea Alta is a gripping whodunnit thriller that follows the disappearance of Mia, a young cyber activist, dedicated to denouncing the injustices around her. Overseeing the case is the enigmatic new detective who suspects that any of the people surrounding Mia might have had motives to get rid of her. Written by Antón Goenechea (“Perdida”) and directed by Roger Gual (“Las Chicas del Cable”), this thriller features Cassandra Ciangherotti (“Las Horas Contigo”), Raúl Méndez (“Paramédicos,” “Sense 8,” “Narcos”), Antonio López (“Narcos México,” “El Último Rey,” “El Señor de los Cielos”), Susana Zabaleta, Fermín Martínez and Gustavo Sánchez Parra. 

LA MUJER DEL DIABLO (The Devil’s Woman) – The original story, written by renowned Venezuelan creator Leonardo Padrón, tells the story of a young woman who has been robbed of her peace of mind and must struggle to free herself. This unsettling tale of love, vengeance and survival tells the story of Natalia Vallejo (Carolina Miranda), an elementary school teacher with dreams of leaving her small town to work in tourism, and Cristo Beltrán (José Ron), a high-level criminal who poses as a benefactor to the needy and becomes obsessed with Natalia, not caring that she is in love with another man and doing unimaginable things to win her over. 

LOS RICOS TAMBIÉN LLORAN (THE RICH ALSO CRY) – Produced by Carlos Bardasano the story revolves around Mariana, a humble and feisty young woman who after being left alone and helpless in the world arrives by fate to the life of Don Alberto Salvatierra, a business magnate and one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the country. The novela stars Claudia Martin (Amar a Muerte) and Sebastian Rulli (Vencer el Pasado, El Dragón). 

LA MADRASTRA– Produced by Carmen Armendáriz and written by Chilean Arturo Moya Grau, the new murder mystery style telenovela follows Marcia a woman who is sentenced to pay for a crime that she did not commit. In the process of being sentenced to 35 years, she loses her support system as her husband Esteban considers her a murderer and divorces her. Twenty years later, a lawyer reopens the case and can release Marcia early. This new rendition of the classic novela marks the return of beloved actress Aracely Arámbula and heartthrob Andrés Palacios. 

VENCER LA AUSENCIA – Produced by Rosy Ocampo this novela, the fourth installment of the succesful Vencer franchise, tells the story of four women from different backgrounds who maintain a close friendship that is affected when they lose what they love the most due to the same accident. After that unfortunate event, they must rebuild their lives and restore the sisterhood that united them. The production stars Ariadne Díaz, Mayrín Villanueva, Alejandra Barros and Mariana Garza.

LA HERENCIA (The Inheritance) – Produced by Juan Osorio (El Ultimo Rey), the story begins at “Santa Catalina,” the avocado farm where Don Severiano Del Monte and his wife, Catalina Arango live with their five adopted sons: Juan, Pedro, Mateo, Simon (Emmanuel Palomares) and Lucas (Juan Pablo Gil). When Don Severiano passes away due to a terrible accident, the lives of these brothers are turned upside down when they meet the sister they did not know existed. The novela features actress Michelle Renaud and heartthrob Matías Novoa.

CORONA DE LAGRIMAS 2 – Produced by José Alberto Castro, the novela tells the story of Refugio and her family continued story.  Refugio faces emotional and moral struggles as she tries to unite her three children, who are at odds due to love and economic rivalries. The stars from the original version returning for the second part includes Victoria Ruffo, Jose Maria Torre, Alejandro Nones, Maribel Guardia, and Ernesto Laguardia. 

MI SECRETO – produced by Carlos Moreno Laguillo, is an original story by Marissa Garrido, adapted and scripted by Martha Carillo and Cristina Garcia. In Mi Secreto, Valeria and Natalia are two girls who met at a boarding school in Spain at the age of eight. The experience of their family’s heartbreak will unite them intimately, making them inseparable friends until the day they suffer a terrible accident. Mi Secreto features performances by Macarena García and Isidora Vives, alongside Karyme Lozano, Arturo Peniche, Claudia Ramírez, Fernando Ciangherotti, Alma Delfina, Luis Felipe Tovar, Vanessa Bauche, Luis Fernando Peña, Eric del Castillo, Laura Vignatti, Chris Pazcal, Daniela Martínez, Lalo Palacios, among others.

EL RETADOR – created by the “Pequeños Gigantes” producer Rubén Galindo, “El Retador” brings together talented individuals of all ages to compete with “Campeones” (Champions), established artists, in three different disciplines: dance, singing, and imitation for a chance to win a cash prize that accumulates week after week.
