They seized the opportunity to show what the next generation of drivers are capable of in the fastest, lightest, most powerful and efficient electric race car ever built.Brazilian Drugovich set the standard with a 1.05.509 lap towards the end of the second session of the day which was only 0.208 off Maximilian Günther’s time in the SABIC Berlin E-Prix weekend, set in the same car. The rookies did not have to factor in energy management, allowing them to push their driving capabilities and new race craft to the absolute limit.Current DTM champion and sportscar driver Sheldon van der Linde took the top spot in the morning’s running with a 300kW powered-lap, not the full-power 350kW that was available.Luca Ghiotto (Nissan Formula E Team) wound up second, just 0.073s back. Lunes 24 de abril del 2023: El campeón de la Formula 2 de la FIA, Felipe Drugovich, marcó el mejor tiempo en el Test de Novatos de Berlín, a sólo dos décimas del mejor tiempo marcado en los entrenamientos del fin de semana de carreras doble del SABIC Berlin E-Prix 2023, por Maximilian Günther en el mismo coche.

El nuevo coche de carreras GEN3 ya logró la vuelta más rápida en la historia de la Formula E a principios de esta temporada, mientras que el público de Berlín fue testigo de cómo se pulverizaban más récords con un total de 362 adelantamientos en 83 vueltas de carrera.

Hoy ha sido el turno de 23 novatos de la Formula E -ninguno de ellos con experiencia en la serie- de poner a prueba el GEN3 en el circuito berlinés de Tempelhof. Han aprovechado la oportunidad para demostrar de lo que son capaces los nuevos pilotos con el coche de carreras eléctrico más rápido, ligero, potente y eficiente jamás construido.

El brasileño Drugovich marcó la pauta con una vuelta en 1.05.509 hacia el final de la segunda sesión del día, que se quedó a sólo 0.208 del tiempo de Maximilian Günther en el fin de semana del SABIC Berlin E-Prix, marcado con el mismo coche.

Los novatos no tuvieron que tener en cuenta la gestión de la energía, lo que les permitió llevar al límite absoluto sus capacidades de conducción y su nuevo coche de carreras.

El actual campeón del DTM y piloto de coches deportivos, Sheldon van der Linde, se hizo con el primer puesto en la carrera de la mañana con una vuelta de 300 kW de potencia, y no con los 350 kW disponibles.

Luca Ghiotto (Nissan Formula E Team) terminó segundo, a sólo 0.073s. La mejor vuelta del ex piloto de Formula 2 de la FIA de la sesión matinal se realizó en el modo de 350 kW, al igual que la del piloto de pruebas y reserva de Mahindra Racing Jehan Daruvala, tercero, y la del ex piloto de Formula 1 Danil Kvyat, cuarto.

Felipe Drugovich se subió al Maserati MSG Racing por un día, y se encontró la posición 12 en la tanda matinal, a 0.765s del ritmo final.

A Victor Martins, vigente campeón de la FIA Formula 3, le fue mejor con el Nissan: acabó octavo, a medio segundo de la marca de Sheldon van der Linde.

But nevertheless, saw the chequered flag, 18 points and a beer. “(On temptation to go for the win) Not when Nick started to pick up the pace with eight laps to go – it was just too high risk and JEV was looking pretty punchy at turn 6 so I had to manage that. I was pretty content in second place and scoring some points to be honest.” Jean-Éric Vergne, No. 25, DS PENSKE said: “It was really chaotic. I’m very glad the race is over. I’ve never really experienced this kind of racing where no one really wants to be leading at the beginning and creating a lot of chaos at the back. I was surprised to get in the front bunch so early. It was very difficult to time it just right so we were just waiting for when we felt was the right moment. We could tell Mitch was in a really strong position, he felt positive, as did Sam. But there was one point we could tell Mitch was slightly up on energy because he’d been sat in third for a while. When the timing was right we thought let’s see if we can make that break now and it worked. El líder de la clasificación, Pascal Wehrlein, empezó el la posición 15 y recuperó mucho terreno antes de caer hasta la novena posición al final de la carrera. En un momento dado he visto que ya había 40 adelantamientos y ni siquiera había pasado un tercio de la carrera. En los primeros compases parecía que podía pasar cualquier cosa. Mantuvimos la cabeza fría y los pilotos ejecutaron la carrera de forma brillante con el equipo de ingenieros. Estoy muy orgulloso de todos y muy contento de haber conseguido el primer 1-2.

“Trabajábamos juntos como un equipo y calculábamos el mejor momento para salir. Era muy difícil acertar, así que esperábamos a que llegara el momento adecuado. Nos dimos cuenta de que Mitch estaba en una posición muy fuerte, se sentía positivo, al igual que Sam. Pero hubo un momento en el que nos dimos cuenta de que Mitch estaba un poco falto de energía porque llevaba un rato en tercera posición. En el momento oportuno, pensamos si podíamos abrir una brecha, y funcionó. Pero vaya carrera, estratégicamente ha estado increíblemente cerca el éxito o quedarse fuera del podio”.

Victor Martins, Equipo Nissan de Formula E: Actual campeón de la Formula 3 de la FIA, Victor Martins realizará pruebas con el equipo Nissan de Formula E. Martins ha sido miembro de la Alpine F1 Academy desde que ganó el Campeonato de Formula Renault Eurocup en 2020. Tras su éxito hasta la fecha, ha dado el salto al Campeonato de Formula 2 de la FIA, donde compite actualmente para la temporada 2023.

Felipe Drugovich, Maserati MSG Racing: Campeón de Formula 2 en 2022 y piloto reserva de los equipos Aston Martin y McLaren F1, realizará pruebas para Maserati MSG Racing. Fue el primer miembro anunciado en el Programa de Desarrollo de Pilotos de la AMF1, dos días después de ganar el Campeonato de F2. Tuvo su primera oportunidad detrás de un coche de F1 en noviembre de 2022, durante unas pruebas en Silverstone. Esta oportunidad le permitió obtener su Superlicencia de la FIA y pilotar en los entrenamientos libres del Gran Premio de Abu Dhabi de 2022. Junto a Stoffel Vandoorne, de la Formula E, Drugovich fue añadido a la lista de pilotos reserva de Aston Martin para las 15 primeras carreras de la temporada 2023.

Sheldon van der Linde, Jaguar TCS Racing: Sheldon van der Linde, vigente campeón del DTM en 2022, tendrá su primera oportunidad en la Formula E con Jaguar TCS Racing. Actualmente compite en el Campeonato DTM junto a René Rast de Formula E. Como piloto de BMW Factory Works, también compite en el Campeonato GT World Challenge Europe y en el Campeonato IMSA SportsCars, donde obtuvo el P2 en su clase en las 12 Horas de Sebring de 2023. Su hermano mayor Kelvin van der Linde, dos veces campeón del ADAC GT Masters, también debutó en la Formula E a principios de esta temporada como sustituto del lesionado Robin Frijns en Diriyah, Hyderabad y Ciudad del Cabo.

Jack Aitken, Envision Racing: Actual competidor en los campeonatos IMSA SportsCars y DTM, Jack Aitken debuta en la Formula E para Envision Racing. Pilotando el nuevo Cadillac V-LMDh, ganó las 12 Horas de Sebring 2023 de la IMSA tras un incidente en el que los coches GTP que le precedían chocaron entre sí en los últimos minutos de la carrera. Fue piloto reserva del equipo de F1 Williams Racing, con el que compitió en el Gran Premio de Sakhir de 2020 en sustitución de George Russell. Su experiencia previa incluye ADAC GT Masters, European Le Mans, así como las 24 Horas de Le Mans.

Linus Lundqvist, Avalanche Andretti Formula E: vigente campeón de la Indy Lights y campeón de la Formula Regional Américas 2020, Linus Lundqvist probará para Avalanche Andretti en el test de novatos. No es ajeno a las carreras de monoplazas desde sus días en la F3, donde fue nombrado Campeón de la BRDC Fórmula 3 Británica, también ha corrido las infames 24 Horas de Daytona en 2019 y 2022.

Daniil Kvyat, NIO 333 Racing: El ex piloto de Formula 1 de Red Bull y AlphaTauri Daniil Kvyat hará su debut en la Formula E para el equipo NIO 333. Actualmente compite en LMP2 en el Campeonato Mundial de Resistencia de la FIA, y el año que viene correrá para Lamborghini Squadra Corse como piloto de fábrica. También ha pilotado en el infame brickyard en la NASCAR Cup Series en la carrera Indianapolis Road Course y tiene programadas tres participaciones más este año.

“Berlín es una carrera única para el campeonato, con curvas largas y rápidas y una superficie poco habitual. Llamo a la superficie ‘pebblemac’ porque en realidad está formada por grandes bloques de hormigón con piedras (los fragmentos de roca sueltos) prensadas en la superficie superior. Estas piedras son agresivas para los neumáticos y, aunque es una vuelta corta, el porcentaje de tiempo que se pasa en las curvas es bastante alto, por lo que la configuración del coche debe adaptarse al tipo de curva. Además, es una carrera complicada en cuanto a la gestión de la energía, así que hay mucho que pensar en Berlín, pero es un gran circuito al que ir”.
