UNIVISIONARIOS is a Univision Noticias initiative that celebrates Hispanic community leaders in the United States and how their contributions advance our community and the nation. An esteemed advisory board selected nine finalists, with our audience choosing one finalist in the MiUnivisionario category – voting ended on August 27 – that will ultimately be awarded $10,000 to the foundation of their choice as they continue to strive for a stronger community. The ten finalists will attend the UNIVISIONARIOS gala on September 22 in Washington, D.C. In addition to the honorees, UNIVISIONARIOS will recognize the big personalities in the ICONOS category that have broken barriers with their voice, image, and positive actions. This year’s ICONO is DADDY YANKEE, who has left an important mark on the Hispanic community and its legacy. Viewers can watch UNIVISIONARIOS live on September 22 at 8 p.m. ET on Univision. The program will feature a Second Audio Program (SAP) for the visually impaired; the audio services will narrate every detail of the event, as it is happening on the screen. In addition to the SAP, UNIVISIONARIOS will include detailed closed captions in English and in Spanish. These accessibility enforcements make UNIVISIONARIOS the first live event on Hispanic television that is completely accessible to all audiences. The gala will feature performances from top artists, participation from Univision Noticias anchors, journalists, and talent, and engagement from notable Hispanic community leaders. ICONODADDY YANKEE – Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and composer, known as “King of Reggaeton.” In 2007, DADDY YANKEE became the spokesperson of the environmental organization, “Yo Limpio a Puerto Rico” (I Clean Puerto Rico) and in 2017, he donated $100,000 to the Food Bank of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. The donation provided food to nearly 9,000 families on the island. In addition to his work on Puerto Rico, Daddy Yankee has supported other countries, like Dominican Republic. In both islands, he has established a soup kitchen “Daddy’s House” where a large number of children and youth receive access to food. Further, the singer has developed an important alliance with the Habitat for Humanity foundation, where he has built houses for the Puerto Rican community.
